DESCENDANT OF THIEVES
Presents
GENIUS SERIES
We recently sat with Smif-N-Wessun at our Mulberry Street shop. The legendary Brooklyn hip-hop duo has left an undeniable mark on New York rap culture and street style. The conversation was too good not to film. From their debut Dah Shinin’ to their Cocoa Brovaz chapter to their latest album Infinity, Tek and Steele have stayed rooted. True genius-level MCs.
When they first hit the NYC hip-hop scene in the 1990s, their vocal style was commanding and unmistakable. Blending Brooklyn grit with Caribbean patois, their flow was raw and revolutionary. Culture-shifting. It wasn’t just music. It was identity. It was defiance.
Their influence on me ran deep. They set the trends not just musically, but stylistically. They had me running to the military surplus shop for my first pair of camo fatigues. So when Tek wore our tapestry set, our modern interpretation of camo, it felt like a full-circle moment.
Smif-N-Wessun continue to speak the hard truth and stay loyal to the code. They embody originality and style with real substance. As Tek said, “Style is in you, it's not on you.”
Check out their latest album, Infinity.
