The Descendant of Thieves Bleecker shop is located at an 1800's historic landmark building with ties to old-world independently owned storefronts. We choose this location because it embodies the rich and colorful history of NYC culture, commerce, and community. The brand now has a locale for the nonconformist individual who subscribes to the cult movement of withdrawing from mass-market and embracing more artisanal brands that reflect their personal tastes.

A DARK HISTORY

247 Mulberry was once the home of the infamous Ravenite Social Club, an Italian American heritage club and espresso bar that doubled as the criminal headquarters for the Gambino Family. The club was initially founded in 1926 during the prohibition era as the Alto Knights Social Club and later became a hangout for “Lucky” Luciano. In 1957 Carlo Gambino took over and renamed the club “The Ravenite” after Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Raven.” In the mid-1980s, John Gotti, known as the “The Dapper Don” after his chic style, was appointed the head of the Gambino Family. It all came crumbling down in the 90s when the FBI infiltrated and wiretapped the building.

Today it is the home of Descendant of Thieves, a particular society of outsiders. Hints of the old club can be found, including the raven skeleton wallpaper, original tiled floors, tin ceilings, and a vintage manual lever-pull espresso machine that makes cafe’ as was made in bygone years.

We are a clothing brand, not a social club...
but damn if it doesn't feel like one.
